REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ENGGANO -- The communities in Enggano, the outer island of Bengkulu province, need to increase the capacity of their human resources on an ongoing basis to develop the tourism sector on the island.
"Qualified human resources are needed to help the local communities develop the tourism potential of Enggano Island," Enggano District Head Marlansius remarked here on Wednesday.
According to Marlansius, Enggano communities have minimal knowledge to manage and enhance the existing resources to support tourism.
Therefore, he noted that support from central and regional governments for capacity building of the Enggano communities is highly expected.
He stated that the people of Enggano Island have a unique culture and traditional dance forms with immense tourism potential, which should be developed on an ongoing basis, but the island faces a shortage of capable human resources.
"Indigenous dance forms must be preserved, but there are limited qualified human resources to tap into the cultural potential. Hence, it seems difficult to do it," he added.
