REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GORONTALO -- The Gorontalo provincial administration is revitalizing Lake Limboto in Gorontalo District in a bid to transform it into one of the local tourism icons to attract tourists.
In order to return the lake to its original status, the administration will utilize funds worth Rp300 billion from the regional budget to dredge the lake, Governor of Gorontalo Rusli Habibie stated on Tuesday.
The authority has decided to launch the dredging initiative as sedimentation is a growing problem in the lake.
"We have chalked out a plan to revitalize Lake Limboto, and we will accelerate the dredging operation," Governor Habibie noted.
Moreover, an artificial island will be constructed in the middle of the lake in accordance with the revitalization plan.
"I am optimistic that the revitalization will be completed in 2016. Hopefully, besides being revitalized, the lake will also become an icon for Gorontalo's tourism," he affirmed.
The authority will also build a residential complex along the lakeside, providing free houses for the local fishermen.
Lake Limboto is located in Limboto Sub-district of Limboto District, Gorontalo Province.
At the local attraction, tourists can enjoy various activities such as fishing, boat racing, or swimming.
The tourists can also relish fresh grilled fish sold by the local fishermen at relatively low prices.
