REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said that the number of tourist arrivals from January to December 2015 reached 9.73 million, or increased by 3.12 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
"Cumulatively, the visit of foreign tourists has increased by approximately three percent," head of BPS, Suryamin, said here Monday.
The increasing number of foreign tourists was recorded in six main entrances, with the highest percentage increase in Sam Ratulangi Airport (North Sulawesi) amounting to 12.65 percent, Suryamin said.
At Entikong entrance (Kalimantan Barat) tourist arrivals have increased by 10.63 percent and at Batam (Riau Islands) by 6.31 percent. Meanwhile, at the International Airport of Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara) the number of tourist arrivals has increased by 0.48 percent.
At Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali), in the period January - December 2015, the number of tourist arrivals reached 3.92 million, compared to 3.73 million during the same period in the previous year.
In 2015, BPS completed its information about the number of tourist arrivals with some other data such as foreign citizen (WNA) visit through the Border Post (PLB) and other foreigner visits, and foreigners residing in Indonesia for less than a year.
By adding these new instruments, the foreigners who visited Indonesia in 2015 totaled 10.41 million.
Of the total, 9.73 million were tourist visits, 370.9 thousand were foreigners visiting via the Border Post, and the remaining of 306.5 thousand were short visits.
As for the room occupancy rate (TPK) star in 27 provinces, in December 2015 it reached an average of 57.25 percent, up 7.12 points compared to December 2014 when it stood at 50.13 percent.
