REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Surabaya's Vice Mayor Whisnu Sakti Buana has lauded a plan to organize the Kenjeran Festival, which will feature eating fish together and a student band festival on Saturday (May 21).
"It is a pretty good idea. I appreciate it. It deserves praise from the government," he said here on Wednesday.
He said eating fish together is a national program that will indirectly encourage the community to pick up the habit of consuming fish.
Moreover, Surabaya belongs to the eastern coastal area which is rich in marine resources. "We have a coast which is rich in fish," he said.
Similar activities can be undertaken on a larger scale to cover a number of coastal areas in the city, he said.
Chairman of the event's organizing committee Riswanto said his side had held an internal meeting to discuss preparations for eating fish together.
"I predict that about four thousand to five thousand people will attend the Kenjeran Festival," stated Riswanto, who is also a member of the Surabaya city legislative assembly.
Representatives of seven friendly countries including Japan, Taiwan, Britain, German and Nepal are expected to attend the event.
