REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUSA PENIDA -- The Government of Klungkung, Bali, will host a three-day Nusa Penida Festival 2016 from October 7-9, 2016. The event will feature a performance by 1,000 Jangkang dancers and various other cultural attractions.
"Nusa Penida Festival 2016 will be the second such event held in Nusa Penida, an island away from mainland Bali. It is an effort to attract tourists to the area," Head of Culture and Tourism of Klungkung District, I Wayan Sujana, said on Friday.
He said preparations were being made for a proper and smooth conduct of the festival which will become an annual feature. The 1,000 Jangkang dancers from Port Banjarnyuh, Ped Village, Nusa Penida are a part of a sacred dance community of Nusa Penida.
Wayan Sujana said the annual event is expected to increase tourist visits to Nusa Penida and lead to a better earnings for the local people. One of the organizers of the event, I Nyoman Widana, said Nusa Penida Festival will eventually become a tourist attraction, both inside and outside the country.
Nusa Penida Islands consist of a sub-district with an area of 363 square km or two-thirds of Klungkung District?s area.
People in the remote islands have to use a motor boat.
Nusa Jaya Abadi Roro Ship, which has been operating since 2007 and connects Nusa Penida (Klungkung) with Port Padangbai, Karangasem District, makes the journey in 30 minutes.
The island has a panoramic view of the underwater world and coral reefs that provide a sustainable breeding place for hundreds of species of ornamental colorful fish.
Foreign tourists enjoy the underwater scenery. They can reach the location by boat from Port Benoa, arriving in the morning and returning in the afternoon.
