REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- Several thousands of Banda Aceh city's residents have denounced Israel's deadly assault on Gaza during an antiwar rally here on Wednesday.
The rally was participated by students, civil servants, and local politicians, including Chairman of Banda Aceh city's legislative body Yudi Kurnia, and Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Saaduddin Djamal.
In her speech, Illiza had condemned the Zionist regime's military aggression and called on the United Nations to take immediate action to safeguard the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
"Where is the United Nations (UN)? The UN has tended to ignore the humanitarian disaster happening in Gaza. Therefore, let us work together in helping the people of Palestine," she stressed.
During the rally, the crowd had collected funds worth Rp149 million to be donated to the Palestinians in Gaza.
According to Aljazeera, the Israeli military aggression on Gaza has so far resulted in the death of 640 Palestinians, mostly civilians including children, and has wounded 4,000 others. In return, the Palestinian fighters had killed 29 Israeli soldiers.
