REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Chairman of Presidium of Indonesian Police Watch Neta S Pane reminded the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly that keeping Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in Mobile Brigade headquarter (Brimob) prison after the case is incracht was a mistake and serious violation to law as it was not a detention center.

"All parties, especially Minister of Law and Human Rights must understand that Brimob Prison is not a detention center. If the minister does not understand this, he must resign as he is inappropriate to be minister,” said Neta in a short message to Republika.co.id on Thursday (June 22).

Neta said prisoners should be placed in a detention center as Indonesian legal system was known for having a coaching system for them when having punishment. It means that all the prisoners should be coached without any exception, including Ahok. He reminded that the system did not recognize any discrimination.

“Those who have the system and facilities for the prisoners are only detention center. Prisons do not have coaching system and facilities for prisoners. Moreover in the Brimob prison which is very limited and quite narrow. Brimob prison only has four buildings in the form of houses,” said Neta.
