REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Deputy Chairman of Defenders of Cleric and Activist Team (TPUA) Habib Novel Chaidir Hasan said National Police has dropped the case of alleged blasphemy involving former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). To Republika.co.id, he showed photograph of Letter of Termination of Case Investigation (SP3) into Ahok who allegedly insulted the Quran during the trial on December 14, 2016. The letter was signed by Criminal Investigation Agency of National Police (Bareskrim Polri) on January 24.

"The police shows they sided with perpetrators in blasphemy case," Habib Novel said on Sunday (Jan 28).

Habib Novel believed Ahok has insulted the Quran again by saying that Al Maidah verse 51 has caused split in the society. On December 14, 2016, Novel filed a police report against Ahok's alleged blasphemous statement.

According Novel, the police has explain their consideration in issuing SP3. He said, Bareskrim investigators have examined three witnesses. The police concluded Ahok's statement came as a part of his defense on the blasphemy trial and it was not a crime.

"Exception on the trial is the defendant's right, which guaranteed by the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), as long as there is no reprimand from the judge," Novel quoted the letter.

So far, there has no confirmation from the police regarding the provision of SP3 to Ahok.
