Indonesian Political Expert Arbi Sanit Dies at 81

Arbi Sanit passed away at RSCM, Thursday (25/3) morning, at the age of 81.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA- A renowned political observer from the University of Indonesia Arbi Sanit passed away on Thursday at 07.15 WIB. Arbi died at the age of 81 at the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Jakarta.

Arbi Sanit's son, Feri Sanit, informed the death of his father in a short message. "Innalillahi wainnailaihi rojiun, my father ARBI SANIT has passed away at RSCM 07.15 am, please open the door for sorry if he was wrong," wrote Feri Sanit in his message.

Arbi Sanit was diagnosed with the acute heart failure and there was fluid in the lungs. Before he died, Arbi Sanit was brought to ICCU RSCM on Wednesday (24/3) and installed a ventilator at 22.00 WIB.

Arbi Sanit was born in Painan, West Sumatra, June 4, 1939. Arbi wrote many political books, including "Indonesian Political System" (1981); "Political Representation in Indonesia" (1985); and "Parties, Elections, and Democracy" (1997).

Arbi Sanit is one of Indonesia's political experts. He has been a lecturer in political science at the University of Indonesia and the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka.

The fifth child of 11 siblings received a bachelor's degree from FISIP UI in 1969 with a thesis entitled "Indonesian Communist Party: A Source of Political Power in the Interior of Central and East Java 1952-1965".

Then, Arbi took the non-degree program "Indonesian Political System" at the University of Wisconsin, United States (1973-1974).
