Fasting in Ramadhan is one of the main teachings of Islam. Every year in the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world are obliged to fast for those who meet the requirements. However, what are the benefits of fasting required by Allah SWT?

Many verses and hadiths explain the benefits (fadilah) of fasting. Of the many benefits of fasting, among them, in addition to Muslims being able to be taqwa, it can also foster disciplined, diligent, and patient behavior.

"A person who is fasting means he is carrying out the commandments of Allah Almighty," said Topaji Pandu Barudin, in his book "Worship of Fasting Forms a Godly Person."

A person can complete his fast by performing various other acts of worship such as sunnah prayer, almsgiving, and reading the Koran. The habit of carrying out the commands of Allah SWT seriously makes him have disciplined behavior.

Discipline behavior grows because he always tries to carry out Allah's orders on time.

Fasting can also foster diligent behavior in everyday life. A person who performs fasting is accustomed to being diligent in worshiping for the sake of getting the perfect reward from Allah SWT.

And fasting can make someone to be patient and years of testing. Because when fasting he has to restrain his lust and anger so that the fast is not canceled.

Discipline in Islam, among others, is recorded in the Koran surah an-Nisa verse 59. Discipline can be interpreted as obedience to obeying predetermined provisions.

The provisions that have been determined can come from Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, and the leaders. The provisions of the leader that may be obeyed are those that do not conflict with the provisions of Allah and His Messenger.

Some calls for time-related discipline can be seen in some of God's Words. For example, expressions that are meant to respect time or behave in a disciplined manner: wal-fajri (for the time of Fajr), wadh-dhuha (for the time of the morning), wan-nahar (for the time of day), or wal-'ashr (for the time of the afternoon).

Fasting teaches you to always be disciplined. Discipline in obeying the orders of Allah and Rasulullah SAW, starting on time to end the sahur, on time for breaking the fast, including being on time in carrying out the obligatory prayers and tarawih prayers.
