REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The chief of the Indonesia's Papua National Intelligence Agency (BIN) was killed by a Papuan separatist and terrorist group (KST) attack on Sunday (April, 25). The chief of Papua BIN died in a shootout with KST Papua in Dambet Village, Beoga District, Papua.
BIN released a chronology of firefights which resulted in the death of Brigadier General I Gusti Putu Danny Karya Nugraha, the chief of Papua BIN. Danny was attacked by KST Papua while observing the field to speed up security restoration.
The Deputy of BIN, Wawan Hari Purwanto, explained that the visit of the top leadership of Papua BIN in the field was carried out to increase the morale and enthusiasm of the local community after the KST cruel action there. According to Wawan, so far the local community has been disturbed by the KST Papua atrocities.
The interception and attack on the Chief of Papua BIN began when the BIN Task Force patrol together with the TNI-Polri Task Force traveled to Dambet Village, Beoga District, Puncak Regency, Papua, Sunday (25/4), at around 15:50 WIT. At that time, the BIN Task Force and the TNI-Polri Task Force were intercepted by KST Papua.
"Then there was gunfire around the Kampung Dambet church," said Wawan.
The head of Papua BIN along with seven members took four motorbikes to Dambet Village. Kampung Dambet was previously attacked by Papuan separatist groups by burning people's homes and educational facilities including housing for teachers.
The burning incident in Dambet Village occurred on Saturday (17/4) causing the house of the Eber Tinal Tribe Chief to burn down.

Commander in Chief of Papua, Maj. Gen. Ignatius Yogo Triyono, stated that the perpetrator of the shooting of Dani was carried out by the Lekagak Telengen group. Danny's body will be buried in the Jakarta Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) and posthumously promoted to Major General.
Military and intelligence observer Susaningtyas Kertopati said Brigadier General Danny died in defending the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). According to him, BIN has been proactive in maintaining the stability and security of Papua.
The woman who is usually called Nuning also appreciates the performance of BIN under the leadership of Budi Gunawan for being serious in handling Papua issue so that it remains part of the Republic of Indonesia.
Nuning said Brigadier General Danny was in Papua in order to carry out the task of restoring security after security disturbances carried out by separatist groups to the community in Beoga, Puncak Regency, Papua.
