REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Environment and Forestry is hand in hand with Multi-Stakeholders Forestry Programme Stage 4 (MFP4) to strengthen the capacity of forest enterprises with Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK) and Community Based Forest Enterprises (CBFE) using market access player.

Secretary of Directorate General of Sustainable Forest Management, Misran, emphasized the importance of the legality of the timber. Community Based Forest Enterprises and market access are also important.

“It is an added value for companies that purchased SVLK certified timber. Legality is more important when the timber is exported,” Misran said while visiting Community Forest (HKm) Sedyo Lestari in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, on Saturday (24/4).

MFP4 has been cooperating with local NGO, Java Learning Center (Javlec), since 2000 to coach the Community Forest in Gunung Kidul for certification. It focuses on the growth of legal processed wood production and community based forest enterprises using market driven approach.

Meanwhile, for the growth of legal processed timber, some of their achievements are building SVLK clinics for community forest farmers and traders. They can consult the implementation of SVLK in the clinics built by MFP4, Javlec dan association.

“There are three clinics, which are located in Jogja by cooperating with Asmindo Jogja, in Jepara by cooperating with Jepara Small-Scale Furniture Producers Association (APKJ), and in Klaten by cooperating with Asmindo Klaten, said Manager Forest Governance and Policy MFP4 Iwan Wibisono.

MFP4 and Javlec facilitate the coaching for the members of HKm and HTR about the technical implementation of online SIPUHH. This is important so that every permanent activity in HKm is in line with the procedure and policy. The training is aimed to boost the capacity of HKm and HTR members on recording, reporting, and operating SIPUHH.

“When purchasing timber, IBI ensures the timber is certified. If it is not, IBI will accompany the groups or the farmers to process the legality of their timber,” he said.

Recently, MFP4 and Javlec built MAP (Market Access Player) to increase timber trade, which then known as IBI (Interface Business Indonesia). IBI bridges the trade by connecting the owner or right owner of a forest, owner of processing industry, and exporters. IBI is managed professionally outside Javlec.
