Ministry of Environment handles Covid-19 medical waste

Ministry of Health is hand in hand with Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Ministry of Health is cooperated with Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to manage medical waste of Covid-19.

 

“We are hand in hand with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (to manage the medical waste of Covid-19 handling),” Director of Environmental Health at the Ministry of Health, Vensya Sitohang, said to //Republika.co.id// on Sunday (13/6).

 

Vensya added, the Ministry of Health, based on its task and function, is to make a regulation for health care facilities that produce waste. She explained that medical waste contains hazardous and toxic waste, or known as B3 waste. It should be separated from domestic waste health care facilities.

 

The separation of the waste, she said, should be done by the health care facilities before it is furtherly processed. The further process of medical is issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

 

The spokesperson of Covid-19 Vaccination at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, citing the Decree of Minister of Health, said that the processing of medical waste such as vaccines is handled by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with department from Environment and Forestry or other parties that usually manage infectious waste.

 

“(The processing of Covid-19 medical waste) is carried out by its own health care facilities,” she said.
