REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA— Founder of Gusdurian, Alissa Wahid, said the 2024 election will sacrifice many people's interests to preserve the interests of President Joko Widodo.

In order to get rid of his son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, President Jokowi and his political party colleagues said Alissa was willing to crash into the democratic corridor.

“Now Elections are not from the people, by the people and for the people anymore, but from the people, by the people but in the interests of power. It actually sacrifices the people,” Alissa said at the launch of Jagapemilu.com on Friday (5/1/2024).

The daughter of former President Abdurrahman Wahid is miffed that the government now perpetuates its power at the expense of the interests of the people much, but it is carried out within the corridors of law.

That is to say he government and Parliament have prepared Laws and regulations that keep them safe from legal entanglements when doing things that are in fact ethically violating.

For example, Alissa exemplifies the government's massive disbursement of social assistance that is actually aimed at Gibran's political interests.

But that cannot be legally challenged because the handover of social assistance is done according to the rules. And it doesn't seem clear on the surface that the help is to win over a particular couple.

“For example, the massive outpouring of aid, we see no violation of the rules. Not directly touching the presidential election. But we civil society realize it's for political benefit,” Alissa said.

“It would be hard to see something that is infringing or not in the ethical space. Because rules have been set up to be able to accommodate those actions,” Alissa added.

Alissa herself claimed to have received reports from the community that a village was threatened with no direct cash assistance (BLT) if only one person did not vote for a certain presidential couple.

Alissa was miffed that there was an attempt to utilize bansos as a government program to be of political interest.

“There are reports that if there is only one that is not coblos X, all the villages will not be able to BLT. Is Bansos wrong? Is BLT wrong? no. But ethically this cannot be justified,” Alissa said.

To ensure such fraud does not occur in the remaining stages of the Election, Alissa supported civil society to be actively involved in safeguarding and escorting the democratic party. He promised to deploy Gusdurian volunteers scattered throughout Indonesia to participate in Jaga Election volunteers.
