One of them, Presidential Candidate (Capres) number 1 Anies Baswedan conveyed happy birthday (Anniversary) to Megawati Soekarnoputri who has turned 77 years old.
Anies expressed prayers and hopes that Megawati always consistently safeguarded democracy. As well as being a sturdy pole in safeguarding the constitution.
“Let us pass on a happy birthday to Mrs. Megawati, may Ms. Mega always be healthy, extend her life always in happiness, prosperity, and continue to be a solid pillar in safeguarding our constitution and democracy,” Anies told reporters as he was about to conduct a grand campaign in Yogyakarta, quoted from Jakarta on Tuesday.
Anies said Megawati was a consistent figure in safeguarding democracy. That's evident from his track record in government showing a respectful attitude to the rules and the constitution.
“When he served as president he ran the election neutrally. Even as president, in that election he was not the winner,” said Anies, who is also the former Governor of Jakarta from 2017 to 2022.
Then, Anies said, when she did not win the presidential election, Megawati was out of the government aka in an opposition position she lived stoically. Until then back to government again.
“And when it's in government again there's a lure, what lure? Extension, not budging. So in my opinion, on this anniversary we can take a lesson from Mrs. Mega as a person who preserves the constitution, maintains democracy, may a long healthy life always,” he said.
It is known that PDIP General Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri celebrated her 77th birthday on Tuesday (23/1/2024). PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto revealed that the anniversary of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia was celebrated simply by his closest people.
“As in previous years, Ms. Megawati's birthday was held simply, and was attended by her family and close friends,” Hasto said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said all PDIP cadres in different regions also celebrated Megawati's birthday with cultural activities. His colleagues will also distribute tumpeng for the community to carry out tree planting.
In some regions, reforestation is carried out as part of caring for the land, which is a daily tradition of Mrs. Megawati, who is known for loving plants and always taking care of the living environment, including being the Chairman of the Indonesian Botanical Garden Foundation,” he said.

Hasto also recalled Megawati's role in safeguarding Indonesia's democracy. He alluded to the issue of a 3-term extension that was echoed by those close to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Hasto claimed Megawati dared to refuse the request for an extension of the term despite the consequences in the 2024 general election. He wants Megawati's toughness in safeguarding the mandate of the constitution to be set as an example.
“By neglecting his struggle, the various intimidation that is taking place at this time, in fact, has become a ferment for the spirit to be more solid in realizing the sovereignty of the people as the highest law in determining the leader,” Hasto concluded.
