REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT PLN (Persero) provides green electricity needs for the industrial sector in Indonesia through Green Energy as a Service (GEAS). The GEAS service is a commitment to the provision of clean electricity from new and renewable energy based power plants (EBT) for the industry.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo in remarks received in Jakarta on Wednesday (17/7/2024) stressed that PLN is committed to responding to changes in world industry leading to zero emissions. The move was in line with the government's efforts to meet its zero carbon emissions (NZE) target by 2060.

“In line with the high commitment of the industrial sector to support decarbonization in Indonesia, PLN provides green electricity through a renewable energy certificate (REC) as an internationally recognized GEAS product. Each REC certificate proves that the electricity per megawatt hour (MWh) used comes from EBT or nonfossil plants,” Darmawan said.

To ensure that green electricity is fulfilled, PLN continues to increase EBT generating capacity in the country. Until 2023, PLN's EBT plant development has reached 8,786 megawatts (MW). With details, hydro-based generation (PLTA/PLTMH) of 5,777 MW, geothermal based generation (PLTP) of 2,519 MW, and the rest is from solar (PLTS), wind (PLTB) as well as biomass.
