REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- The Government of Batam, Riau Islands inaugurated the reuse of the Batam Grand Mosque and opened to the public after revitalization.
The inauguration was held in conjunction with the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's Maulid held at the mosque on Sunday evening.
Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi in Batam on Sunday said although the revitalization is not yet 100 percent complete, he is making sure to complete the remaining work immediately.
“It's been closed for too long. We first prioritize the main building, so that people can use for worship. Revitalization is not yet complete, but the infrastructure will continue to be gradually improved,” Rudi said.
During this inauguration, Batam Grand Mosque had a new name, namely Masjid Agung Raja Hamidah Batam.
The Raja Hamidah Grand Mosque of Batam stands on an area of 33,392 square meters with an ideal seating capacity of 10,000 people.
“On July 8, 2022, we started revitalizing this mosque. Thank God, it can now be reused for the community, ” he said.
In addition to being expected to be a place of worship for the community, the Raja Hamidah Grand Mosque of Batam is also a religious icon of religious tourism in the local area.
“Because of the economic growth of one of those tours is huge. Hopefully with the presence of this mosque tourism will increase,” he said.
Rudi explained that the Raja Hamidah Grand Mosque of Batam was completely revitalized and has two parts, the main prayer room and the meeting or activity room.
“I hope that with the construction of this mosque in the middle of the city we can add people to carry out religious activities here,” he said.
The construction of the mosque worth IDR 167 billion was carried out in the plural year by PT Adhi Karya, which was the winner of the auction of the project that began in July 2022.
