PSSI Announces Patrick Kluivert as Indonesia National Team Coach

Kluivert will come to Indonesia on Saturday (8/11/2025).

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PSSI officially announced Patrick Kluivert as the new coach of the Indonesian national team. This announcement was made by PSSI through its official website on Wednesday (8/1/2025) afternoon.

As leaked from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Kluivert is contracted two years from 2025 to 2027 with the option of a contract extension.

While coaching the Garuda Squad, Kluivert would be assisted by a number of assistant coaches from the Netherlands such as Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat. In addition, there will be two local Indonesian coaches who will be assistant coaches.

Kluivert is a legend of the Dutch team. During his time he was the best striker in the Netherlands as well as a number of top European clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Barcelona, CF Valencia, Newcastle United, PSV and Lille.

After retiring as a player in 2008, the Amsterdam, Netherlands-born coach on 1 July 1976 immediately pioneered a career as a coach. He started as an assistant coach at AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nigmegen, Brisbane Roar. Next became the coach of Jong Twente and managed to win the title.

Kluivert was also an assistant coach to Louis van Gaal in the Dutch national team that finished third at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In 2015, Kluivert was appointed head coach of the Curaçao national team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification and 2017 Caribbean Cup qualification.

Other experiences include serving as sporting director at Paris Saint-Germain and the Barcelona academy, coaching the Ajax A1 (U-19) team as well as being Clarence Seedorf's assistant in the Cameroon national team.

Before moving to Indonesia, he was the coach of Turkish club, Adana Demirspor. In addition, Kluivert has also served as director of FC Barcelona's academy.

Kluivert is planned to come to Indonesia on Saturday (11/1) and the next day he will be officially introduced to the public.

Kluivert's debut will start with Indonesia against Australia at Sydney Football Stadium on March 20 and Bahrain at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on March 25. The match is the continuation of the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifying group C of the Asian zone.
