Prabowo Thanks Agriculture Minister for Quick Work to Meet Rice Production
President confident Indonesia will reach self-sufficiency target.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto appreciated the quick step taken by Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), Andi Amran Sulaiman in meeting domestic production so as to make prices relatively stable.
According to the President, Mentan Amran's initiation should serve as an example for ministers and other regional heads to be prompt in dealing with various issues faced. It is known that Mentan moves quickly to pompanize during the long dry season or the worst el nino in history.
“Thank you to the Minister of Agriculture (Andi Amran Sulaiman) for your quick step to make rice prices relatively safe. In fact, we know, we are just facing a prolonged El Nino season,” the President said at the Interior Ministry's Inflation Control Meeting on Monday (9/12/2024).
Regarding this, the President is also grateful that the government he leads is able to control the country in a safe state, at a time when the whole country is facing uncertainty. Therefore, the President is confident that in the near future Indonesia will achieve its self-sufficiency target so that in the next few years it will no longer adopt import policies that could damage prices at the farmer level.
“I thank all levels, I am grateful that we can control our country in a situation where the whole world is facing uncertainty. And I believe food self-sufficiency can be an inflation controller and this is something that is very beneficial for the people,” he said.
The president added that even the smallest work, if done continuously, will yield useful results for the nation and the country. For example, increased production through pompanization is able to increase the national rice reserves.
“The small things, the vital things that we work on, we can control, like food and rice. So I'm grateful to everyone who begged,” he explained.
