REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A survey conducted by the Jakarta Research Center (JRC) showed that the public's approval rating of President Joko Widodo's performance was very high at 82.3 percent, with 11.3 percent of them saying they were very satisfied with Jokowi's leadership.

There were only 15.7 percent who expressed dissatisfaction, including 2.3 percent who felt dissatisfied at all, and the remaining 2.0 percent expressed no knowledge/no answer.

“The high level of public satisfaction with Jokowi, which reached 82.3 percent, proves that political turmoil does not affect public perceptions and preferences in the decision to vote in the presidential election,” JRC Communications Director Alfian P said in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday (5/2/2024).

The level of public satisfaction with Jokowi has also increased since September 2023, reaching 77.0 percent. Satisfaction continued to rise until it broke the psychological limit of 80 percent in January 2024, and reached a record in February 2024.

That is, various political maneuvers packed with ethics complaints have nothing to do with positive perceptions of President Jokowi. The high level of public satisfaction is also an affirmation that the majority of the public tends to support the sustainability of Jokowi's program.

This is in line with Prabowo-Gibran's high electability as the vice-presidential couple most committed to continuing Jokowi's program.

The political turmoil that erupted later did not have a significant impact on the political choices of the majority of voters. According to Alfian, the public is already savvy enough to see the political movements behind the uproar that arose in the run-up to the election.

“Voters who are the majority of young people no longer like that kind of political frenzy, let alone with narratives of slander and hate,” he said.

Many of the voters in this election are a generation born post-reform and raised in a stable political situation. “Young voters want more of an economic overhaul, on which Jokowi has worked hard to lay his foundations,” Alfian said.

The candidate who is judged to be most consistent in advancing the economy has a strong chance of being elected and winning the presidential election. “More so is the sentiment of change, which is practically supported only by a minority of the public who are dissatisfied with Jokowi's leadership,” Alfian said.

The Jakarta Research Center (JRC) survey was conducted on January 25-31, 2024, face-to-face to 1200 respondents representing all provinces in Indonesia. The survey method is multistage random sampling, with a margin of error of about 2.9 percent and at a confidence level of 95 percent.

The Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has received the registration of three candidates for office, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.

The election campaign period was set from 28 November 2023 to 10 February 2024, while the vote was scheduled for 14 February 2024.
