REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), a priority program of the government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is ready to start at 190 points spread across 26 provinces. The MBG program is supported by a budget allocation of Rp 71 trillion in the State Budget 2025.

“We are grateful, not waiting 100 days or exactly the 78th day Mr. Prabowo becomes president, the MBG program started,” said Indonesian Presidential Communications Chief Hasan Nasbi in a press release in Jakarta, Sunday (5/12/2025).

Hasan said it was a historic milestone for Indonesia, which for the first time implemented a nationwide nutritional fulfillment program for toddlers, schoolchildren, kindergartens, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. He said that information from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), recorded 190 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens ready to operate.

The kitchens are spread across 26 provinces, ranging from Aceh, Bali, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Riau, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, and Gorontalo. Further West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Maluku, North Maluku, East Nusa Tenggara, to West Papua, and South Papua.

Each MBG kitchen is managed by an SPPG head appointed directly by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). SPPG chief Dadan Hindayana, Hasan said, worked closely with a nutritionist and an accountant to ensure strict supervision of nutritional quality and smooth food distribution.

In addition to ensuring nutritional adequacy in each serving of MBG, according to Hasan, SPPG is also tasked with strictly overseeing hygiene standards, nutritional management, and waste treatment in each MBG Kitchen. “BGN is committed to minimizing waste. In fact, to support sustainability, the serving trays are designed using hygienic and reusable stainless steel materials,” he explains.

As stated by President Prabowo, Hasan continued, the government does not take holidays in the new year, including Saturday and Sunday, to ensure the smooth running of the MBG program. The momentum of the start of the program also coincides with the return of learning and teaching activities in most schools this week.

The government places the readiness of MBG Kitchens as a top priority in order for the service to run at its maximum. In the initial phase, 190 MBG Kitchens began operations on Monday (6/1/2025). That number will continue to increase every day.

It is expected that the target of 937 MBG Kitchens can be reached by the end of January 2025, with implementation carried out gradually according to the preparedness of each region. Currently, 140 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been involved in the supply chain of the MBG program, and the number is projected to continue growing.

Thousands of SMEs, cooperatives, and other BUMDEs have signed up and are going through the evaluation process. The government ensures that there are no fee levies in the process of registering work partners.

Full information on the terms of cooperation and registration can be accessed through the one-stop registration system on the official website bgn.go.id. The local economy is also sure to move significantly for the better, as the MBG program involves farmers, ranchers, and local MSMEs.
