REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- The South Sulawesi provincial capital of Makassar will host an international conference on stem cell technology on April 28 this year.
"Through this conference, we want the public to understand the stem cell technology and how can people benefit from it," chairman of the event's organizing committee, Dr Fonny Josh, said after a meeting with South Sulawesi Governor, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, here on Monday.
The conference will feature a number of plastic surgeons from various countries, including the Netherlands, Japan and the United States, Josh said.
"This conference is being organized along with a scientific symposium, a workshop and a symposium for the general public," he said.
He said many people have a wrong impression of the stem cell technology. Furthermore, many pharmaceutical companies have been selling products, claiming these to be stem cell products, at relatively high prices.
He expressed the hope that all doctors in South Sulawesi will take part in the conference which will be opened by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
Participants will come from the general public interested in studying stem cell technique.
