PBNU criticizes JK for monitoring mosque speakers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Council (PBNU) Slamet Effendy Yusuf assessed Vice President Jusuf Kalla's move to form a monitoring team for playing Quran lectures tapes in mosques have been exaggerated.

"I think this is exaggerated, but it also for introspective material from among the Muslims not to preach in a provocative way," said Slamet Effendy told Republika on Thursday, July 23.

According to Slamet, the best way was not the state's way to monitor the activities of such propaganda. He also questioned what would be done if it was in the field found the reality which undesirable for JK. Worship tradition could not be arranged tightly.

Slamet continued, maybe there were some people who complain about the speakers of the mosque, but it was not felt by most Indonesian people. He considered this problem was the people's subjectivity, it relied on environment where the people were grow and live.

"People like me who grew up in boarding schools, every day hear the parents were teaching the Quran, heard the children praises Allah, it was enjoyable. Despite being sleep, heard it was also enjoyable, "said Chairman of NU.

Previously, a spokesman of VP, Husain Abdullah, said VP established a team to monitor playing of the Quran lectures tapes in mosques. Through this team, JK intended to gather facts on the field to measure the noise level of the Quran lectures tapes.
