REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The industry ministry would discuss a plan to provide incentive for hybrid car production this week, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said Monday. "This week, the industry ministry will discuss the incentive scheme for hybrid cars with the finance ministry. If the incentive scheme is approved by the finance ministry, next week we will hold a meeting with the automotive industry principals to talk about hybrid car import," he said.

For the time being, the hybrid cars would be imported from the principals` countries, because it is impossible to produce hybrid cars in Indonesia in the very near future, he said.

Several automotive industry principals such as Toyota said its hybrid car production in Indonesia only possible in 2014. Minister Hidayat said hybrid car wss fuel efficient and could become a solution to the current energy crisis in Indonesia.

"The hybrid car can help reduce the gas emission and save fuel consumption. It`s in accordance with the government`s energy efficiency program," he said.

Earlier, Hidayat said the industry ministry was still looking for the right technological system that could reduce carbon emissions from cars to make cars more environmental friendly.
