Aid for Rohingya to be distributed later than scheduled

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YANGON - Indonesian Red Cross' aid for Rohingya in Rakhine, Myanmar, has not yet distributed due to lack facilities. The aid is predicted to arrive at the shelter in Switte, Rakhine, on Wednesday.

The Chief of Disaster Prevention in Indonesian Red Cross Soemarsono said the aid was planned to be delivered from Yangon to Switte by Indonesian Red Cross' aircraft on Sunday, but the facility in Switte Airport was insufficient. "The airstrip in Switte is too short. Our airplane cannot land in there," Soemarsono said on Sunday.

After coordinating with Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS), the 7.5 aid will be shipped. "Tomorrow the aid will be shipped to Switte," he said. The volunteers will also go to Switte on Monday and carry some of the aid as a sample. Then, the sample of aid will be symbolically given to MRCS in Tuesday. "The aid will be managed and distributed by MRCS," he explained.
