REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Commemorating the 20th anniversary of India-ASEAN, India is seeking people to people cooperation with countries in ASEAN, including Indonesia. Among others, effort made by Indian Embassy to Indonesia was to do business event not only in Jakarta, but also in Bali and Manado.
"Our focus in not only in Jakarta, but also in other regions of Indonesia," the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Gurjit Singh, said on Wednesday on ASEAN-India Business Seminar for Progress and Prosperity in Jakarta.
India also seeks cooperation on education, particularly on student exchange. "We want people to link together," he said.
Ambassador Singh mentioned that India expected to increase tourism cooperation with Indonesia. There are three efforts to improve tourism cooperation between Indonesia and India. The first is to expand tourism destinations.
"Can we bring more people to other part of Indonesia? Not only to Bali," he said.
The second is that India expected to explore direct flight from India to Indonesia. Meanwhile, the third is that India is willing to build tourism infrastructure in Indonesia.
Indonesian Vice Minister of Finance, Mahendra Siregar, agreed that both countries should talk more intensively on infrastructure. He also said that India and Indonesia had to be more sensitive. "We should emphasize not only in liberalization, but also address the issue of poverty and equality," Siregar said.
