Jakarta Fair to be opened on June 6 till July 7

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta is ready to hold the annual Jakarta Fair to mark its anniversary on June 6. The biggest trade fair in Southeast Asia organized by the Jakarta administration in cooperation with PT Jakarta International Expo will last for a month until July 7 to mark the capital city`s 486th anniversary.

PT JIExpo managing director as the general chairman of the organizing committee, Prajna Murdaya, said at a press conference here on Thursday "if exhibition events like Jakarta Fair continues to develop they could encourage trade promotion and industrial innovation to help boost investment."

The event will also be highlighted by musical performances involving 260 bands. Events like the Jakarta Fair can absorb workers to contribute to economic development and welfare improvement. 

While the committee is expecting 4.8 million people to attend the event with transactions expected to reach 4.5 trillion IDR. The target is higher than last year`s which was set at 4.5 million visitors and 4 trillion IDR in transactions.

"We hope the Jakarta Fair this year will become the main shopping tourism destination for visitors from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi and other regions in the country," he said.

The Jakarta administration`s regional assistant secretary for economic affairs, Hasan Basri, meanwhile said "this event provides room for promotion, investment in the tourism sector and development of meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition tourism industry."
