UAE operated Ruby gas field to produce 85 bbtud gases for domestic market

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ruby gas field on Sebuku Island in the Makassar Strait, operated by Mubadala Petroleum began its production on October 27, 2013. The volume has now reached 85 billion british thermal units per day (bbtud). Gas production will be delivered for domestic buyers, PT Pupuk Kaltim, a state owned fertilizer company.

Acting Head of Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), Johannes Widjonarko said that it was a government's support to allocate gas for domestic purposes. 

"At the same time, we can also empower national fertilizer industry," Widjonarko said recently.

Widjonarko explained that the purchase agreement between Pupuk Kaltim and Mubadala Petroleum would last until December 31, 2021. Ruby gas field keep producing 85 bbtud untill the end of 2017, then it will decrease according to field production. About 250 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas will be produced for domestic market all the time.

Government approved Ruby gas field development by Mubadala Petroleum in Makassar Strait, between Kalimantan and Sulawesi Island in June 2011, while the plan of development (POD) has been approved by Indonesian government in 2008. Mubadala Petroleum holds a working interest of 70 percent. Total E&P Sebuku and Inpex South Makassar were each holding 15 percent of working interest. Ruby project is a single largest energy investment in Indonesia by United Arab Emirates company.
