The race for the tallest skyscrapers in Jakarta

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State owned oil and gas company, PT Pertamina to build the tallest building in Indonesia. The construction is expected to be completed in 2020.

"It will become a new icon of Indonesia," President Director of Pertamina, Karen Agustiawan said recently.

Pertamina tower will be the first to use concept of environmental friendly energy by using renewable energy installation. All aspects of renewable energy are applied in this building.

The building will stand 400 meters high with 99 floors. Various facilities will be available, including office facilities, mosques, sport venues, convention hall and energy center.

Pertamina Director, Budi Luhur Djatmiko said that Pertamina tower would be built on an area of seven hectares. The construction will be conducted gradually. Company still develops an energy plan. All Pertamina employees, including its subsidiaries will work there.

Djatmiko said that company allocated 200 billion IDR for initial development. This funding comes from Pertamina cash. He hopes this project can be completed in 2020.

Pertamina has hired prominent architectural and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, who was responsible for the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is currently the world’s tallest building.

The tower would be rivaled by another proposed tower built by PT Astra Internasional. The latest has entered the first construction phase of the newest 50 floor building with funds worth seven billion IDR.
