REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Statistic Indonesia (BPS) announced in Jakarta on Monday that Indonesia's inflation rate on July 2014 stood at 0.93 percent month to month (mtm), while year on year (yoy) inflation stood at 4.53 percent Head of BPS Suryamin said that component of core inflation was recorded at 0.52 percent.

"The core inflation was at 4.64 percent," Suryamin said on Monday as reported by Friska Yolandha.

Based on BPS data in all cities in Indonesia, the highest inflation occured in Bengkulu (2.92 percent), while the lowest at 0.13 percent. July inflation was better than previous years. Indeed, there were lower inflation rates in July 2009 (0.45 percent) and July 2011 (0.67 percent).

According to Suryamin, July inflation was quite restrained due to the fasting month. Lower inflation coincided with Eid al-Fitr celebration, which was driven by government's success in controlling prices long before Ramadan.

Food inflation contributed 1.94 percent to total of yoy inflation in July 2014, followed by food products (1 percent), clothing (0.85 percent), as well as transportation, communication and financial services (0.88 percent). The high inflation in transportation sector was caused by the homecoming travels on Eid.

Nevertheless, it could still be controlled by government.
