REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- China will compete with Japan to build superfast train in Indonesia for Jakarta-Surabaya route. The agreement was signed between China and PT Resteel Industry Indonesia during Indonesia-China Trade Investment and Economic Forum in APEC Summit in Beijing.
"China seems very interested in the project," Head Committee of Indonesia-China Trade Investment and Economic Forum Didi Suwondo said on Wednesday, November 12.
After signing the Memorandum of Understanding, China will hold feasibility study that will take at least four to five years. "They will review our policies and incentives," he said.
The elevated train is expected to reach a speed of 300 kilometers per hour and would allow the distance between Jakarta and Surabaya to be travelled in around 3 hours. Japan has signed up since 2008 and has started feasibility study.
