REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian government plans to impose luxury sales tax on agate. The move is following government's plan to revise Ministry of Finance Regulation No. 253/2008 on Luxury Sales Tax (PPnBM).
"We will impose tax to agate worth more than a billion IDR," Head of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Shahlan Rasyidi, said on Tuesday, February 3.
The tax, he said, would be use to boost public facilities as well as boost the economical value of other gemstones.
Meanwhile, a seller at Agate Center in Dervis Market, Zanal (47) disagreed with the plan. He argued that agate didn't have a standard price like gold. "We disagree if government puts stone art in luxury goods," he said.
