REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Member of Regional Representative Council (DPD) from Papua, Paulus Yohanes Sumino reminded the new cabinet system of Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, which limited the ministerial seats. DPD asked Jokowi to maintain his commitment that the slim cabinet would not base on negotiation or transaction among parties.
According to him, Jokowi must appoint the right person to chair ministries intelligently, physically and mentally, so they will bring important policy for all people. They can come from a party, non-party, professional or NGO.
It will be better if all ministries merged into one. They will be more efficient to produce laws that do not contradict each other. The slim cabinet will not slow down government performance because all tasks will be handled by deputies or departments. The civil servants will continue their function as usual, like in China, there is only one minister.
However, the decision was too bold. Sumino does not believe that Jokowi will do it.
"It is too extreme. Does he dare to do it? Gusdur - former president - did it," Sumino said recently.
According to Sumino, Jokowi won the presidential election because people saw him as simple figure and affordable to people, while the middle class saw him to establish the slim, effective and clean cabinet. If Jokowi failed to maintain his commitment, he will face criticism from the Red and White Coalition, House of Representative and also people of Indonesia.
