REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) plans to insert a clause about the remission prohibition for defendant in corruption lawsuit. According to Deputy Head of KPK Adnan Pandu Praja, the Commission has been impressed working in vain to eradicate corruption if the corruptor was still received rights like common convicts.

"We still carry out a special assessment. If it can be implemented like the theory, we will do it as possible," Praja said recently.

The reason must be found in an actual formulation. The revocation of remission rights is applicable in Indonesian law as it becomes a preventive way to eradicate corruption.

KPK recently was furious with a remission given to corruption convicts, Anggodo Widjojo. He got 29 month sentence remission from Ministry of Laws and Human Rights, while he previously sentenced with 54 month imprisonment. Sukamiskin penitentiary also gave a parole to him.

According to KPK, remission and parole are violating the Government Regulation (PP) No. 99/2012 on Standards and Procedures on Treatment of Prisoners. Through the regulation, government has restricted the remission for a convicted of corruption. A prisoner can get it only if he becomes a justice collaborator or helping another law case.

Minister of Laws and Human Rights, Amir Syamsuddin appreciated KPK's steps to initiate the clause. However, it needs an official regulations.
