REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) denied naming former Vice President Boediono as a suspect. Spokesman of KPK, Johan Budi, said the issue was untrue.
"We never name Boediono as a suspect," Budi said on Friday, December 5.
Earlier, Vice Chairman of KPK Adnan Pandu Praja stated that KPK named Boediono as a suspect in the 2008 Bank Century bailout scandal. The statement issued during the launch of a white paper on corruption eradication at the provincial legislative building in Pekanbaru, Riau. “In ten years, the KPK has taken on 435 cases. They involved ministers, governors, district heads, mayors and diplomats. And now we’ve named a former vice president a suspect, Boediono,” Adnan said.
Budi claimed that he did could not explain why Praja mentioned Boediono as a suspect. "Chairman of KPK Abraham Samad also said that KPK did not name Boediono as suspect," he said.
Law expert from Universitas Indonesia, Ganjar Laksana, said KPK must confirm with Praja on his statement. "It can create different public opinion," he said.
Laksana said that it was common for KPK elites to have different statement. He predicted that Praja was having miscommunication with investigator.
