REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Nadhlatul Ulama Central Executive Board (PBNU) has urged the figures supporting ISIS and those having declared their support to the terrorist group to hold a dialog to debate the foundation of the movement.
"I have suggested that the figures supporting ISIS should have a dialog with us to discuss the argument they use to promote their movement," PBNU Deputy Chairman As'ad Said Ali stated during a discussion on "ISIS and Deradicalization Efforts" here on Sunday.
He explained that the PBNU was ready to hold a dialog with ISIS figures as he believed that the PBNU could undermine the argument used by the ISIS terrorist group.
As'ad opined that the people interested in joining ISIS were influenced by the ideology of jihad without having a true understanding of it.
Therefore, he stated that the PBNU was keen to have a dialog with them to align the values that are contrary to Islam, which preaches peace and condemns violence against fellow Muslims.
Commenting on the ISIS movement, which is believed to have allegedly penetrated into several regions in Indonesia, As'ad stated that the government should exercise caution in taking action against it.
Besides this, he also appealed to the government to be wary of Indonesian citizens who traveled to Turkey to join ISIS.
