Surabaya Police reveals drug abuse scandal involving soccer players

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA  --  Surabaya city police has revealed a drug abuse scandal involving soccer players after it arrested a former football assistant coach manager.

"We arrested him after we found him consuming crystal meth," the Deputy Chief of the Drug Investigation Unit at the city police, Commissioner Anton Prasetyo said here on Thursday.

The 52-year old man identified by his initial as G obtained the crystal meth from another suspect identified by his initial as C, who is the younger brother of a former soccer player.

Both suspects were arrested from the Jenggolo housing complex in Sidoarjo district, East Java, at 06.30 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. on Tuesday.

"From the brother of C, we seized a pocket of crystal meth and the rest was given to another suspect identified as B," Anton said.

The 50-year-old B, a resident of Kalilom Lor Timur, Surabaya, is an assistant lecturer at a state institute for higher learning in the city. He was arrested in Kalilom Lor Timur Gg VI/14, he said.

Both G and B have been accused of consuming crystal meth, and C has been accused of drug trafficking, Anton revealed. "Based on information from the suspects, they also supplied crystal meth to several national football players," he added.
