REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The public prosecutors charged the defendant in blasphemy case, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) using two alternative articles. “The first was related to the violation of Article 156 of the Criminal Code letter A and the second was (the violation of) Article 156 of the Criminal Code,” said Public Prosecutor Ali Mukartono during the trial in the North Jakarta District Court, Tuesday (12/13).
The material in the first alternative charge is associated with the qualification of Ahok's statement which insulting the religion during his official visit as the Governor of Jakarta, on September 27, at Seribu Islands.
Ahok called that there were parties used a part of Quran, Surah al-Maidah verse 51, for a particular purpose. "The second alternative charge was essentially the same, but the qualifications were different," said Ali.
