REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA --  The House of Representatives (DPR) has vowed to complete the revision of anti-terrorism law in June this year. No later than next week we will start continuing deliberations on the revision of anti-terrorism law," House Speaker Bambang Soesatyo said.

The government proposed the revision of anti-terrorism law to the DPR in 2016 following a bomb attack in Thamrin area in Jakarta. However, the revision of the law remains uncompleted until a series of bomb attacks in Surabaya and Sidoarjo, East Java, on Sunday and Monday.

Soesatyo said deliberations on the revision of the law have come to a standstill as lawmakers are at odds over articles on the definition of terrorism, the involvement of the Indonesian military in combating terrorism, bugging and hate speech.

"We deem it necessary to revise the anti-terrorism law to govern the handling of terrorism in Indonesia. Therefore, we will resume the deliberations next week. We target to complete it in June," he said on Monday evening after inspecting the Surabaya City Police Station in the wake of a suicide bomb attack at its entrance earlier in the day.

While the deliberations on the revision of the anti-terrorism law is underway, he encouraged the police to combat completely terrorism which threatens the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"We encourage the police to enter their networks without having to await their acts. If the police are suspicious of people, then they must be investigated soon. If no evidence is found, then they must be released. But if evidence is found, they must be held in custody," he said.
