REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo called on the people here on Thursday to not be over reactive towards recent travel advisories from the US and Australia, saying that Indonesia is secure.

"I have received no information about security issues. This means that we are secure and so we must not be over reactive," he said at a lunch at a seafood restaurant with newsmen.

He made the statement in reply to a newsman's question about travel warnings recently issued by the US and Australia due to potential threats on US-related banks and hotels in Surabaya, East Java.

On Saturday (Jan 3) the US embassy advised its citizens to keep alert and careful when visiting certain facilities in the city.

The Australian government later followed suit by advising its citizens who are on a holiday in Indonesia. It has warned about possible terrorist attacks which could happen at any time.

The number of Australian visitors to Bali has so far been the biggest.

In response to the warnings Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that it was their right to advise their people, adding that it was no problem for Indonesia.

The chief of the State Intelligence Agency, Marciano Norman, meanwhile assured that situation in Surabaya remained peaceful and so people must not be affected by the warnings.

"All security apparatuses including the police and the military in East Java have been ready to carry out their duties well responsively and proportionately. In view of that I hope people will not be influenced by the warnings," he said.
