REPUBLIKA.CO.ID. JAKARTA --- Since the first time he became Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir has consistently voiced the importance of morals (attitudes and behavior) in managing the state and companies, including BUMN.

BUMN Minister Erick Thohir emphasized that one of the keys to the success of SOEs to compete in the future lies in the hands of the BUMN leaders themselves. These BUMN leaders, said Erick, must have good morals.

The morals referred to are not only in the sense of religion, which should be faith and the foundation of life, but also in the work professionalism. According to him, if BUMN leaders want to make changes in BUMN, they need to improve their morals from within.

"When I first entered BUMN, I was overshadowed by the less positive news and perceptions about BUMN. Then when I entered there was a lot of work to be done. But, the key is in the people, the leadership. The key to leadership that I get from family inspiration is morals that must be correct , "said Erick in a conversation with Quraish Shihab and Najwa Shihab, Friday (16/4).

The key to morality, said Erick, will later become the basic foundation for leadership in making policies. One form of morality is to be a trustworthy leader.

"If there are no morals, the decision will cause conflict and come up temptation. I think morality is one of the keys to basic change," said Erick.

In BUMN, said Erick, morals are reflected not on the basis of Islam alone. Erick admitted that creating moral core values ​​in BUMN means that they are adaptive and collaborative.

Moreover, in the midst of dynamic and challenging market conditions, BUMN leaders must carry out these two important points.

"Morals have certain values. There are adaptive and collaborative ones. These are core values ​​in terms of incorporation. This is more to daily guidance in work professionalism," said Erick.
