REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The planned docking of Israeli merchant ships to four Indonesian ports in the near future invites many public highlights. Indonesia's position of opposing Israel's colonization of Palestine makes the Indonesian government obliged to act firmly against it.

Chairman of the Indonesian Clerical Assembly for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim reminded that no group would play with the plan to dock an Israeli merchant ship to Indonesia. Because, in the current situation, according to Prof. Sudarnoto, there could be a certain group that escaped them anchored in Indonesian waters.

“I think the government's assertiveness is very important if there really is any group trying to escape. I think the group should be dealt with legally,” Prof. Sudarnoto told Republika on Wednesday (3/1/2024).

He also asked the public to monitor the arrival of the Israeli vessel. Community monitoring as a form of cooperation with the government. But he reminded in the monitoring process, the public has to do it in good ways.

But if Israeli ships force their way into Indonesian territory, then in his opinion it is a form of violation of territory. And this can be dealt with decisively by the government according to the law. He insisted that no group should play against this sensitive issue.

Sudarnoto added MUI stuck by its stance of rejecting Israel. Moreover, Israel and Indonesia do not have diplomatic relations. By denying the arrival of Israeli ships, then it's a form of defense against the constitution.

“Since there are no diplomatic relations, let alone the current case looking at humanitarian crimes, any Israeli attempt to Indonesia should be rejected. So the presence of Israeli ships must be prevented,” he said.

He appreciated the stance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which rejected the arrival of Israeli boats entering Indonesia. According to him, allowing entry is tantamount to betraying Indonesia's commitment of support to the Palestinians.

The Israeli Zionists have continued to attack Gaza, Palestine indiscriminately. As a result their attacks killed civilians. A number of important buildings also collapsed as did hospitals. This has led to a serious humanitarian crisis.
