BMKG Warns of Heavy Rain in 29 Provinces

Some areas are expected to experience strong winds, high waves, lightning.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) reminds people to be aware of heavy rains that can be accompanied by lightning or lightning at a number of points in 29 provinces in the country on Sunday.

Based on early weather warnings posted on the BMKG website, as monitored in Jakarta, on Sunday morning, heavy rain was forecast to fall in a number of spots in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali.

Next, there are the provinces of West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and North Sulawesi. Lalu, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

In addition to heavy rains, BMKG also reminds people to be aware of the potential for strong winds in West Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and Southeast Sulawesi.

Furthermore, the BMKG also included a number of areas in the category of alert for the impact of heavy rains, such as flooding. The region includes the provinces of Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Lampung, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan.

Earlier, BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati has stated that there is a potential for strong winds, lightning, lightning, heavy rain and high waves in the Indonesian region until April 11, 2024.

“In the lead-up to April 11 there are variations that on April 4-7 there is predicted to be a region experiencing strong winds, high waves, lightning, and lightning,” he said.

Dwikorita mentioned that some areas on 4—7 April 2024 are expected to experience strong winds, high waves, lightning, and lightning, namely West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung Islands, South Sumatra, Bangka, and Lampung.

According to him, the potential for such strong winds, lightning, lightning, heavy rain, and high waves result from several phenomena. Among them, the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon or the collection of rain clouds that have begun to cross the archipelago in Indonesia.

Then, there is also the phenomenon of atmospheric waves, namely the Kelvin and Rossby waves of the Equator and the warming of the surface temperature of the water in the Indonesian Islands.
