REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Prophet Muhammad is often mocked and ridiculed by Quraysh pagans who do not believe in Islamic treatises. Until a time, the Prophet was challenged to resist destinies such as death and calamity in order to be dissuaded from proving his prophethood. God says in Jonah verse 49:

قُلْ لَّآ اَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِيْ ضَرًّا وَّلَا نَفْعًا اِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ ۗ لِكُلِّ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلٌ ۚاِذَا جَاۤءَ اَجَلُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَأْخِرُوْنَ سَاعَةً وَّلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُوْنَ

“Say (Prophet Muhammad), “I have no power (to reject) mudarat, nor to bring any benefit to me, except what Allah wills. “Every people has an end (time limit). When the end comes, they cannot ask for a moment's delay and cannot ask for an acceleration.”

Professor Quraish Shihab in Tafsir Al Mishbah interprets the verse about pagans which repeatedly says, “When a promise comes, that is, a threat, O Muhammad and your followers who are righteous, try to bring the torment immediately.”

The purpose of these pagans was to mock in order to hasten the coming of punishment. So this verse is the answer to the question of the pagans. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was not able to reject immorality and could not bring about expediency for himself.

If so, how could the Messenger of Allah present it to others? What will happen to man is the will of God whose time and level have been set by Him. So that it is all supernatural and the Messenger of Allah does not know about it.

Then it was as if a pagan were saying, “Why don't you just pray that we will be tormented immediately and that you, together with the Muslims, can freely do as He pleases? “So their proposition as such is refuted by this verse.

That every human being has a destiny of death or perdition that cannot be proposed or postponed. Therefore, wait for the coming of death. When their death, that is, everyone, has come, they cannot advance or reverse it even for a second.

As explained in the Ministry of Religion's Tafsir, Allah taught the Messenger of Allah the answer to be told to them by ordering the Messenger of Allah to tell them that the Messenger of Allah is not able to bring harm and does not bring good to him.

For the Messenger of Allah is only a messenger of Allah who is not able to hasten or slow down the coming of the torment promised by Allah to them, just as he cannot slow down the coming of God's help promised by Allah to the Muslims.

But the benefits and benefits brought to man come, none other than the will of Allah. That means that if God wants something to happen, it has no connection with the will of His Messenger, because that will is merely God's keeping the universe. The Apostle's job is simply to convey the will of God, not to create a will. When the Messenger of Allah is aware of unseen things, it is only because he knows them from Allah's revelation alone.
