REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice presidential candidate (cVice President) number 3, Mahfud MD clarified the news that he did not communicate with his running mate Ganjar Pranowo, for four days after the vote in the 2024 election, Wednesday (14/2/2024).
“Next again, hoaks about my and Ganjar's relationship. It went viral on social media that I was not compact and isolated from Ganjar and PDI Perjuangan, because on Wednesday, February 14, I said that I had not met or communicated with Ganjar for four days,” Mahfud said at the University of Indonesia, Salemba, Central Jakarta, Saturday (17/2/2024).
Mahfud explained that he did not communicate with Ganjar for four days, because he was doing umrah worship. Mahfud immediately left umrah after the last great campaign in Solo City and Semarang on Saturday (10/2/2024). This was not after the election.
“In fact, when asked by reporters on Wednesday morning, When did you last see Mr. Ganjar? I said for four days I had no communication, no contact, because of what? Because since the last campaign, on February 10, in Surakarta and in Semarang, I have been an immediate Umrah. So, yes, there is no communication, not because of separation because it is not compact and so on,” Mahfud explained.
He also denied that he is now in a state of intransigence or separation with Ganjar. Mahfud said he did not meet Ganjar for four days simply because he was worshiping Umrah in Makkah and Medina, Saudi Arabia.
“And on the 13th (February) I just went home and went straight to Yogyakarta. When is the silence? To vote. So, four days of not seeing each other was because of the umrah,” Mahfud said.
The former minister of the polhukam admitted that he always communicated with Ganjar before and after umrah. Communication is still going well until now. “Before and after umrah, until now, I have always communicated, met, and telephoned with Mas Ganjar. That's what happened,” Mahfud said.
