REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and National Democratic Party (NasDem) General Chairman Surya Paloh talked about the political dynamics leading up to the election, during a meeting held at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Sunday (18/2/2024) evening.

“Silaturahim (Jokowi-Paloh) talked about the agenda of the national agenda, (efforts) to deal with various global challenges, including matters related to political dynamics and elections,” Indonesian President's Special Staff Coordinator, Ari Dwipayana, said in a brief message.

According to Ari, President Jokowi has previously affirmed that his contacts with political figures are very good, especially for the good of the nation and the country.

However, he did not elaborate further on the meeting between Jokowi and Paloh, which he said was the first time since the 2024 election.

As for the information collected by Antara, Surya Paloh previously held a meeting with Presidential Candidate No. 1 Anies Baswedan on Friday (16/2).

Anies said his meeting with Surya Paloh was to discuss the facts related to the election. “We are discussing developments, matching each other's views,” he said in Jakarta, Friday (16/2).

NasDem, a party led by Paloh, is one of the members of the coalition supporting the pair of Presidential Candidate and Vice Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar.

In addition, Surya Paloh also previously said that it is likely that in the near future he will communicate with the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle Megawati Soekarnoputri to discuss the development of the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Election.
