REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO — Indonesia U-16 national coach Nova Arianto looks after three Australian U-16 players in the semi-final match of the AFF U-16 Cup that will take place on Monday (1/7/2024). The three players that Nova was looking out for were judged to be key to the opposing team's play.
All three players were Quinn Macnicol, 22, who scored a goal against East Timor. The other two are Jordan Graoroski and Nickolas Gustavo Alfaro.
“There are a few players we are wary of, number 9, 10, and 22 so are key players for Australia. That is a record for us and we have to watch out for them,” Nova said at a press conference on Sunday (30/6/2024).
In addition, Nova is wary of the top-ball attack from the Kangaroos. Because, posturally, he rates the opposing players quite well.
“Their posture, the way they play is pretty good and that's what we're anticipating. How Australia's movement includes the top balls because posturally Australia is pretty good,” he said.
Nova also said at training today his side was focused on sharpening defensive and attacking lines in anticipation of attacks and opportunities when against Australia. The training pattern was based on the results of analysis of Australia's matches in the previous group phase.
“The focus is preparation after we've seen the video of the Australia match, how we attack and defend and that's what we'll later train on in the final training today,” he said.
