REPUBLICA.CO.ID, BEIJING -- Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated on the inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia.
“On October 20, 2024, President Xi Jinping telephoned Prabowo Subianto to congratulate him on his inauguration as President of Indonesia,” according to a statement on China's Foreign Ministry website, accessed on Sunday.
Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the oath of office as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for 2024 - 2029 during the Plenary Session of the Indonesian Parliament at Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Sunday (20/10).
“President Xi Jinping stated that China and Indonesia are traditionally friendly neighbors,” according to the statement.
The China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership relationship is considered to be steadily improving and has entered a new stage in building a community with a common future.
The Chinese Ministry said that 2025 marks the 75th diplomatic relationship between China and Indonesia, which is expected to give rise to new opportunities to advance bilateral cooperation.
“I want to be able to maintain close strategic communication with President Prabowo,” Xi said, as quoted in the statement.
Xi also referred to intending to lead the building of a joint future community between China and Indonesia to a higher level.
He also wants the two countries to enter a new chapter in mutually beneficial cooperation as well as to forge a strong union among developing countries.
Prabowo's inauguration as president was witnessed by 709 out of 731 members of the Indonesian Parliament.
The procession was also attended by national figures, leaders of political parties, and representatives of friendly countries. At least 20 officials at the level of the head of state and 18 officials of ministerial level attended the inauguration.
Among the representatives of friendly countries, there was Chinese Vice President Han Zheng who on Saturday (19/10) evening met with 7th President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace.
Vice President Han Zheng also said that he had been assigned by President Xi to attend the inauguration of President and Vice President-elect Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo thanked Chinese Vice President Han Zheng for a visit to Indonesia to attend the inauguration event. “Thank you for your visit to attend the inauguration of the President and Vice President-elect. This ensures a strong partnership between the two countries,” Jokowi said.
