REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIJING - Secretary General of ASEAN-China Center Ma Mingqiang said angklung was incredible, because music instrument seemed quite simple but could produce beautiful sound.
"It's incredible. I have never played this. Let's play it together," Ma said in the event Indonesian Night in Beijing on Thursday night.
Angklung is one of traditional instruments from Indonesia. The musical instrument made of bamboo tubes, originates from the West Java area, and are used by the Sundanese people. Angklung has been recorded as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
Indonesian Night featured the profile of West Sulawesi through dances, songs and traditional food. Representatives of the ten ASEAN countries, China, and a number of friend countries in Beijing witnessed performance of Tuqduq Mandar Litaq Pembelongan and listened to traditional songs like Angin Mamiri and Ayo Mama.
The audience was also invited to enjoy angklung orchestra by Saung Udjo Group, under direction of Kang Udjo. They played three songs.
