REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Netherlands will strengthen agricultural cooperation through Vegimpact Program, which is one of important cooperations in bilateral relation. It has been discussed between President Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Prime Minister of Netherlands in November last year in Jakarta.

One of agricultural cooperations that has been carried out between Indonesia and Netherlands is vegetable crops through Vegimpact program in Netherlands with Wageningen University Research (WUR) Department, especially in Lelystad, Flevoland province on April 4, 2014. In the meeting, there were President Director of International Cooperation in WUR (Dr. Huub Loffler), Applied Plant Research Head of Department (Dr. Herman Schoorlemmer), Project Head of Vegimpact Program (Dr. Arij Everaarts) and senior researcher (Dr. Herman de Putter).

First Secretary of Indonesian Embassy in the Hague, Danang Waskito said that Indonesia's relationship with WUR had existed for a long time. There are 166 Indonesian students who studied in WUR out of 1,495 Indonesian students in Netherlands. They take study program of Environmental Science, Food Technology, Forestry and Nature Conservation, Agricultural Technology, Sciences and Biotechnology.

Vegimpact program aims to increase productivity by reducing the use of pesticides in vegetables. It can reduce cost of vegetable production, health risks and provide training on sustainable vegetable production methods to farmers.
